THE GLASSHOUSE INSTALLS KOREAN ARTWORK BY CONTEMPORARY ARTIST

The Glasshouse, Edinburgh, is proud to announce a new display of stunning glasswork in their gallery from 1st August. This enchanting collection, by Korean artist Kyou-Hong Lee, focuses on the ‘Nature of Life’. Hong’s work reflects the beauty of the organic living creature, incorporating the notion that nature is alternately revealed and concealed.

As well being a unique artist in his field Hong’s methods are technically advanced – involving blown glass which has an inside case of coloured glass and a delicate outer surface of silver foil inclusions. Each egg form is then finished by sandblasting and brush-polishing the surfaces, resulting in series of spheres that captivate colour and light. "Metamorphosis in the natural world has inspired my works,” explains Hong. “The process of metamorphosis seems to me to be the way of approaching a new-born ideal world. The transparency of the medium reflects my ideas.”

Part of the Eton Collection and a fabulous boutique hotel in the heart of Edinburgh, The Glasshouse is located less than 5 minutes walk from Princes Street. The magnificent entrance to the hotel is through a façade of an old church, which provides a total contrast to the remarkable modern interiors. Each room boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, and guests can relax on the beautiful lavender-filled roof terrace overlooking the rooftops of Edinburgh.
